Occupational Medicine – Repetitive Use Injuries
Musculoskeletal Disorders or MSDs are injuries and disorders that affect the human body’s movement or musculoskeletal system (i.e. muscles, tendons, ligaments, nerves, discs, blood vessels, etc.) and are quite common in the field of occupational medicine. A variety of risk factors are involved in the development of musculoskeletal disorders. Always pay attention to your body and know when an ache and a pain could be related to MSD. They gradually worsen over time with the same symptoms reoccurring.
Be mindful if the pain is triggered by a specific task, motion, or repetition performed. Don’t wait until the pain or ache is so bad that you cannot perform your daily routine or work duties and be sure to report it to your supervisor immediately.
How You Can Eliminate Awkward Positions and Discomfort While Working:
Stay conscious of how you are positioning and using your body while performing your daily work.
Make sure your workstation is set up properly.
Avoid staying in one position for too long.
Make sure to take micro breaks and stretch, stand, sit, walk around, etc. Give your muscles a break and a chance to recover.
Use furniture and equipment that fits well to your size and build.
Maintain a health exercise routine that involves cardio, strength training and maintain good posture.
